Who we are

I’m Aparna Patel, co-founder of Banjara. My mother, Kamla Balani, launched Banjara at age fifty when she chose to follow a long-held creative dream after raising her children. She opened a designer boutique offering custom Indian garments—from everyday wear to wedding ensembles—and created handcrafted jewelry using materials sourced from across India and brought to life by local artisans.

I joined her to help market the products in both retail and wholesale channels, and for the past fifteen years I’ve continued her work here in the U.S. What began as a hobby grew into a thriving endeavor: hosting jewelry parties, exhibiting across the DMV area, and reaching customers who value craftsmanship and unique design.

At Banjara, our mission is to empower women of every background. My mother employed many women in India who needed opportunities, helping them develop skills and financial independence. I am committed to carrying forward that legacy by offering affordable, high-quality pieces with diverse designs that invite women to express confidence through their personal style.
